Alarm 14 - Sienci VFD

Hey Everyone,

Setting up a brand new 2x4 altmill with a Sienci VFD (H100). I got all the motion/jogging to work, and the spindle spins up, but as soon as the spindle starts it throws an alarm 14 error. I’ve read through the forums and tried every suggestion I can find including - Flashing vfd gcode, checking VFD wiring, ensuring I plug in and boot VFD before SLB, rebooting everything and trying again, modifying the settings to change alarm delay and spindle spin up time etc. Still happening. As soon as I press the fwd or reverse button in Gsender, the spindle starts and alarm throws, the spindle then spins for 10-15 seconds before coming to a stop. Please help ObiWan, or random space wizard, you’re my only hope.

@PressureMade The extent of my knowledge was used to help @Afterlife without success. Hopefully his support request with Sienci will provide some results. I suggest you contact them shortly as well. They are closed between Christmas and New Years, so it would be good if you had a solution before then.

Sounds like my issue. Alarm 14 literally the second you click start or enter in console, right? No delay? Spindle spools to very low rpm then stops? Test spindle in manual mode. See if it starts, if speed can be controlled using the knob and stops using the VFD.

My control board, I guess, is bad and a new one is coming Tuesday. We may have a couple duds from this batch. It happens. Sienci has been super cool about it so far. Wouldn’t sweat it

I have had the Alarm 14 since I got my Altmill. I have worked with Daniel and Jason, and I still have the issue. I just click past it on start-up and run my project. If anyone knows the fix I would like to know!

My Altmill was number 50 out of the factory.

I have the same issue with Huanyang 2.2kW on modbus.
I have don all I can, even flash firmware again, that didn’t help either.

At least you could still run your project .

Same issue. I’ve reached out to Support and just sent the diagnosis. I also tried the modvfd but that just made it wait a few seconds to throw the error.

On the vfd, does sienci modify any values in the settings? Was thinking about resetting everything back to factory based on the manual. Scrolled the settings and saw some were changed.

Also, when I set to manual mode on the vfd, I noticed the spindle spin up much faster than when gsender starts the spindle.

When I try to click past the error, it turns off the spindle, or turns it off after 5-10 seconds automatically. Tried running break in gcode and it only stays on a few seconds.

They do have many custom settings specific to Sienci programmed into the VFD for proper functionality with the altmill, from what I understand.

This is super interesting. I think our batch of ALTMILLs was faulty. Either in the controller rs485 transceiver chip, cable, or possibly even the VFD’s ability to send return coms?

Im confident, whatever it is, that Sienci will take care of us though

Plot twist - I went to install my dust boot and had to drop the spindle down a bit. When I did that, the spindle wire came out of the plug entirely, breaking the cable. It looks like the number 4 pin had no wire in the solder at all, and the tension relief clamp was completely loose.

At your own risk @Afterlife - might be worth opening that cable end and seeing if you see loose wiring at the solder points.

Yoooooo. Did that fix it? I have to check mine now

I would be odd that several has that problem, myself included. I did not have problems with Blackbox X32, running analog 0-10v.
Mine is a Huanynag 2.2 kW.

If they don’t get back to u let me know I had the same problem with the pwn spindle and vfd I fixed mine with changing the vfd and that code on gsender that speeds up the spindle u have to change it. Trust me it’s a pain in the a$$ I delt with it for a week with pwn cnc he didn’t know either. I have my paper with the codes on it.

15 days and no response from Sienci? Add me to the list if anybody figures this out.

@Stemialert Has Sienci not responded to your tech support request at all? That is very unusual.

They are not back in office until J2. I was just looking at the time between the first post and the last. All seem to be the same issue. I have heard nothing but good things about customer service. Time off over the holidays with a new non-functioning cnc in the garage, and no expected response from the company until after Jan 2 is a little frustrating.

@Stemialert I can sympathize, but have you opened a support ticket?

Please keep in mind that this is a user forum. It does not replace Sienci tech support.

@Stemialert Start your own post and maybe we (the user community) can help. Let us know what specific problem you are having and what you have tried. Specifically, can you home each axis separately?

Got the new spindle cable and that didn’t fix anything…. sigh. Working with Lucy from their support team, hoping it’s something that can be fixed fast. I have projects stacking up!

Let us know what you find!
