Another day in the office

Doing some serious learning in F360 on this one…

Finished it up today…

I ran out of time yesterday to run the last milling step, so I sent the machine to 0,0,0 and turned it off. Hoping it would retain its position.

Turned it on and fired off the last operation, and it quick became obvious that the Z axis had sagged overnight by somewhere between 0.5 and 1.0 mm.

Fortunately the thickness of the piece isn’t critical - I just re-ran the finishing steps on the top and it came out nicely.

The surface off the CNC (1/8" ball nose mill, 0.01" stepover) is almost ready for finish. In most areas, a light pass with 220 or 320 will be sufficient. Next time I do something that will be sanded anyway, I’m going to try 0.015 or 0.02 stepover to save machining time.

I’m liking this machine…
