Long winded.
For 4 years, I have been buying my wife an InkVent calender. This consists of an individual, small bottle of custom colour ink for each of the first 24 days of December, and a larger bottle for Christmas Day.
The challenge was to create a suitable box to contain them all and to allow for expansion going forward.
Enter Michael Tyler’s Bookpile Box, a project that he documented for Vectric 5 or so years ago.
I have done two of these previously. One strictly following Michael’s instructions and files, and another modified to hold my wife’s custom pen collection.
This one is quite a bit different from those two. The bottom 3 books are individual trays that nest into one another, each divided into two partitions holding 24 small bottles. The next 3 books are, in fact, one tray that holds the taller Christmas Day bottles and some odds and sods. The top book is simply a lid that also nests into the tray immediately below it.
The “open” box shows one-year’s-worth of the small ink bottles.
There is no hardware.
I re-sized and modified Michael’s files in VCarvePro 12.5. All the pieces were carved on a Sienci Long Mill Mk1.
My wife did all the painting, which clearly makes the piece. Otherwise, it would simply be bland MDF.

That looks really good. I’d say good job but it looks like your wife did most of the work 🤣
