Depth Issue when switching bits

I am having an issue with consistent depth of carve when I switch from 1/8 inch compression bit to a 1/4 inch V bit. I set the depth of carve at .125 and zero Z, It carves/clears perfect at the .125. When I switch the bits to the 1/4 inch V bit, then zero the Z and run, it will start carving anywhere from the .125 to .75. This is making me crazy. It is set to flat depth from the surface of the material. Any suggestion would be appreciated!!

@Slvrbullit Welcome back, Bob. If you are using VCarve to create your toolpaths, post your .crv file and the .gcode file and I’m sure that someone will be able to suss this out.

Thanks, I’ll post as soon as I run the next project!

In your second from the last sentence “It is set to flat depth from the surface of the material.” doesn’t make sense to me. You don’t say which v-bit you are using but depth is determined the angle and width of the charter being carved. If you wish to limit the depth of cut then the max desired depth is entered as the flat depth limit. If you want the max depth of cut to be .125 then that is what is entered into the flat depth when you create the tool path. The material surface in vcarve is the original surface before any milling has been done.
