After a long laundry list of health issues I will spare everyone the details of, I have returned. Just here to share a Project I’ve been working on for the Longmill Mk2.

After the Auto dust shoe project I was wondering, What else can be driven with a stepper with the SLB Controller?

After what felt like a $2-3K shopping spree, I later ended up with a 100mm Diameter BT30 3KW atc spindle w/ 10x ER32-70mm tool holders and set forth on designing a Concept for a BT30 tool magazine.

I wanted it to be mostly 3d printed for ease of proto-typing (because I the rest of the bits and bobs were expensive enough already) and so that maybe other people can try and replicate for their longmill once its ready. Good thing I can print rather quickly thanks to owning multiple printers…

This one has been in the works for about a year so far and Im getting close to a first proto type. Here is the progress on the model so far:

I will keep posting about this in free time so thank you if anyone took the time to view this and I hope everyone has a great long memorial day weekend!

Update #1:

I have a completed 15 slot BT30-ER32 ATC magazine printed out. Total print time for this Mag was around 1 day per segment (seen in Black CF-PETG). With 4 printers running all at once what would have taken 5 days only took 2 days. The linkages (seen in Red PETG) took around 1.5 hrs for a single unit. The prints for the Black CF-PETG from Sunlu are printed with 20% infill and will be strong enough for this use case. The Prints in Red PETG are printed solid 100% infill.

For the bottom part that accepts the NEMA-23 motor and Linear Guide rod mounting Beam this was a semi structural part so I printed each segment in black CF-PETG with 75% infill and again the Red PETG linkages were 100% infill.

Next update will hopefully be soon as Im waiting on an amazon order for the T8 leadscrew, Linear guide bearings and Rods, and I should have the rest of the parts printed by the end of this week. Stay tuned and keep Machining everyone!

Cool concept to have the magazine drop below the spoil board and out of the way. I would suspect that you will need two steppers to make sure the magazine stays straight and doesn’t bind anywhere. Good luck with your project!

Yes with out any support along the Magazine there would be issues with binding. I included 2x 10mm linear guide rods in the model that ride on 2x linear Ball bearings and should prevent any potential for binding or misalignment in normal use.
