Tranfer xy location

My predicament is i broke a bit and messed up a cherry clock carve. This was clock 5 and to salvage i’ve decided to cut out, plug from nearby wood&grain to match, glue with transparent titebond with cherry saw sawdust and recarve. I need to transfer the location back to v carve and i’m lost. Suggestions how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Bill,

I’m not sure if I understand the problem correctly. But if you still have your xy zero (I take it’s centre clock face.) and you want to cut the plug from the same stock the clock is being carved from, you could just make a toolpath within the clock design on the spot you want the donor material to come from and use the same xy zero as the clock design.

It takes some measuring, but I’m sure you are able to pull that off with no need ro tranfer xy zeroes around.

Thanks Eddie, yeah, the plug part is easy, its telling v carve where the pocket needs to be located so i can genereate a tool path accurately but if measuring is the way to do it ok. Yes xy zero is the center, if i start from there and manually jog to over the pocket location, if i read it’s current location x&y in inches and transfer that location in inches to v carve.

Ah yes, I forgot that the most accurate calliper you have, is the mill.

I think you have found the quick fix.

Thanks again Eddie, my X = 4.230, Y = -5.250 and ruler 6 3/4" so set that up in v carve good to go.
