X axis clicking noise

Hello fellow Sienci users. I just wanted to post this in case someone is searching with the same issue. I recently started getting a loud clicking noise on X axis movement. It was inconsistent and very audible. After digging through the documentation, I decided to pull the spindle and spindle mount so I could separate the lead screw from mounting plate to eliminate variables. I found the issue was within the linear guide blocks. Removing the button head screws on the linear guide block end housings, adding oil, and manually moving the X axis cleared up the resistance and took care of the problem. Smooth as butter now.

I only have 104 hours on my Altmill 4x4 (got it in March of this year). While I don’t think maintenance was the issue, this was definitely my own doing. Operator error. I recently did a long 3D carve on XPS foam before committing to a piece of hardwood. Because it was producing so little ‘dust’, I was only running the dust collection for about a minute every 15 to 20 minutes. Obviously there was fine XPS foam dust getting into the linear guide blocks.

Hopefully this post might help someone in the future. Love my Altmill! The excellent documentation provided by Scienci was great.

@sgulbranson Welcome to the group. Thanks much for posting this. I have no doubt that it will help someone here.
