I see in todays news release that 220V spindles will be out soon. Im going to buy one. I dont know what the difference between enclosed and unenclosed is can someone enlighten me?
Nevermind….found it online….still cant wait for the new spindles….Ill be selling my 110V spindle
I believe Sienci will be selling enclosed and unenclosed VFD’s. At least that’s what the newsletter implies. I don’t know if there is such a thing as enclosed and unenclosed spindles but AI seems to think so. Sienci’s newsletter shows a 90-95$ price difference between the two. I don’t know what that price difference means in terms of features between an enclosed VFD and an unenclosed VFD.
But yeah, according to the latest newsletter, they will sell ER20 120V and 220V spindles/VFD soon, in both enclosed and unenclosed versions.
I’m still waiting for my spindle and hope to get the ER20 version. I believe prior Altmill purchases came with an ER16 spindle.
You are correct…it is the cert version or the uncert version of the VFD. dont need the cert version. I will buy the 220v setup as soon as it is released! What is the diff between the ER20 and 16?
ER16 can only take bits with a shank up to 3/8”. For ER20 it’s 1/2”
After your cert comment, I read the newsletter again and yeah, the uncertified version will have an unenclosed VFD. The certified version will have an enclosed VFD.
They list some improvements between the two, and if that’s all it is, I’m guessing most of the cost increase is associated with the certification cost as opposed to manufacturing costs. But again, just a WAG on my part. Since I’m in Ontario, I don’t have a choice but to get the certified/enclosed version.
Gotcha…vote as we will we can’t seem to control governments in either of our countries. And I sure dont want to go in that direction with this post. Im way down south close to Florida. I was so worried about tariffs but it worked out for my Altmill. It is an awesome machine and I thank my Canadian brothers for making it. With all that said, Im goona buy the 220V spindle on day one!
@beerbarrel yeah, I remember your post where you were considering cancelling your order. Bet you’re happy you held on.
yep….best decision I made next to the woman I married…I had to say that…lol…you know why!
I see the 220v spindles are available…I have one in the cart…just have not pulled the trigger quite yet!
I am hoping the tool changer will become available soon because it requires a different spindle. No point upgrading just before upgrading again.
wow…good point!…..I have not considered that
