Just wondering if anyone has maxed out a compression bit? I have an IDC Woodcraft 1/4β compression bit and an Altmill. IDC has some pretty conservative ratings for the bit compared to the Altmill max of 600ipm. So, cutting 1β birch plywood. Have done in two passes but going to move to one. I just donβt want to break my bit. Any feeds and speeds suggestions?
1/4β bit with a depth of cut of 1β β¦. Holy cow β¦.
I always worked with the ballpark Max DOC = cutter diameter and I have pushed it to 2* cutter diameter while holding my breath, crossing fingers, crossing toes and knocking on wood β¦.
I think youβd be better off setting it to the correct chipload running more than one pass than trying to cut in one pass at a slower (incorrect) feedrate, e.g. chipload.
