How much time does it take to switch out the spindle for a laser module on the Altmill? Google AI says 15-30 minutes. Does 15-30 minutes sound about right?
@JimC14 Welcome to the group. Are you talking about a diode laser module? I have a Long Mill, but I do not remove the router to install the diode laser module. I’m not sure why you would need to with the AltMill but I’m sure that AltMill owners will explain to me the error of my ways. In my case, installing the laser module takes fewer than 5 minutes, including installing the air pump. That said, I’m sure that Google AI knows much more about this than I do. (sarcasm intended
)
Thanks. I made the assumption of changing out rather than having an ‘adaptor’. 5 minutes is not an issue…that’s what I was hoping to hear. Thanks again for the reply.
@JimC14 It would take longer to change it out no doubt. That’s why I don’t do it ![]()
Also, if you have your spindle cables in the drag chains, switching it out is really not a practical option. I dont’ now what laser module you are using. I am using a 20w lasertree diode module. It mounts onto the front of the router bracket. The router stays in place.
Thanks. I’m looking at the K20 Pro. Just trying to make a final decision.
I have an alt-mill and a LaserTree K20 Pro. I attach the mount to the holes on the front of the spindle mount I made my own cable that I leave in the drag chain when not in use so switching from spindle to laser is pretty quick.
Have you looked at the OPT Laser with the dock? I think it takes like 5 seconds to mount and unmount if you get their LaserDock Pro with it.
Seems Opt might be better quality than Lasertree. Which laser are you using? Do you like it?
