Howdy all, I have received the alert that my new Altmill is on it’s way! I’ve checked out the build video and was wondering if anyone has advice regarding assembly when your shop floor isn’t that nice level and smooth place to put your machine together?
Should I consider throwing down sawhorses with a sheet of osb for a temporary table? Or is it ‘keyed ‘ in a way I won’t really need to worry?
Your structural parts are squared off and things will straighten out as you tighten things up.
I have the original AltMill and a less than flat shop floor. What I did was left things a little loose when I set it upright, then used a framing level to adjust the feet and then tightened everything up just to make me feel better.
I also had a smallish roll of indoor/outdoor carpet that I put down to lay everything out on which prevents anything from being scratched or easily roll away. Ideally you’ll need at least a 6’ x 12’ area to spread everything out when putting together. I did add wheels to mine. No sawhorse was needed unless you don’t want to assemble the main table and two legs on the ground then flip it over. I was able to carefully flip it over by myself and rest the other side on a small ladder to add the other two legs to the table.
Lol thanks! I’m going from an openbuilds knockoff with an envelope of 16”x19” to a 4x4 with 6 pocket rapidchange atc..
I’ve already got a conga line of programs/products waiting for the thing to show I’ve been cussing UPS though because they keep pushing delivery back lol
It was Tuesday, then Thursday, now as of this morning it’s Friday.
I’ve waited 5 years to upgrade, I guess a few more days won’t hurt
