Iโm doing a inlay in a cutting board, get the female part done but the male part keeps breaking the small parts off, in wallnut..
Can i be running to fast, and breaking the small parts off?
Thanks, Rusty
Hey Rusty,
Just read your post. Had that happen to me too! Read somewhere that doing the finish cut first and then the roughing cut after helps support the intricate pieces . Tried it and that is now my go to method for intricate inlays. Canโt speak to your speed and feeds and cutters. Hereโs what I use; Amana tapered ball nose bits 6.2 degrees 46280-k and 46473, both run at 12,000 rpm, 30 inches/min feed rate, 40 inches/min plunge. Clearance tool for intricate inlays Whiteside end mill .125 at same feeds and speeds. Hereโs some pictures of inlays that I cut yesterday and glued this morning. Purchased the design from Nik @broinwood .com. Hope this helps!
