I am looking into installing FluidNC on my SLB. I will be adding Fluid Pendant and Fluid ATC. If anyone can help in this path thank you very much.
My understanding (unless it’s changed since we researched this when designing the SLB) is FluidNC is for ESP32 microcontrollers only. You will be unable to install it on the SLB, which uses a STM32F4 microcontroller, without serious alterations to the firmware codebase.
That said, if you’re really married to FluidNC, you could always sub out the SLB for one of Barton Dring’s 6 pack boards or one of the many other ESP32 based boards out there. Barton is the co-creator of FluidNC as you might know. The closed loop steppers on the Altmill have their own drivers if I’m not mistaken, so it would just be a matter of wiring and FluidNC config.yaml configuration.
I currently run two XYYZ gantry CNC machines from Barton’s boards with FluidNC. They’ve been quite reliable. FluidNC plays well with bCNC, my preferred gcode sender.
Cheers,
Tyler
Yes, the SLB was not a good purchase if you specifically want FluidNC. The XPro V5 or Openbuilds Black Box X32 are both ESP32 controllers that are supported by FluidNC
Personally, I think you would be wise to reconsider as I believe that grblHAL is a stronger platform moving forward, and is why I got the SLB despite already having the XPro.
