I bought 111 feet of solid cherry (not one knot in it nor blemish, stunning). 1 3/4" thick and 12" wide (194.25 board feet for only $5.14 per board foot, fully sanded and coated and NO shipping costs, What a steal!)
were they old church pews?
Nice guess, but no. I would love to find pews in cherry, usually I can only find them in oak. These were off a 7million dollar home, hence why they are so wide and without knots. They were used as a design separator between his living room and a view of the ocean. He didn’t like that so he took them down. His daughter saw them in their garage and just posted them on Marketplace for 1.2k but he went down to 1k. I think they were originally sold to him for about 20k when the house was built. They are just perfect for carves. He asked me if I could make him a carving and I did. Great stuff.
