Installing a square spindle on the Alt Mill

Hello, I’m Bruce and I ordered my Alt Mill a couple of days ago. I’m looking forward to getting it! I currently have a square 2.2kw spindle and am wondering if I’m going to be able to use it and if there are any modifications or additions to be able to mount it.

Thanks!

Bruce

Hi Bruce I saw that you posted about a square spindle back in January . Did you manage to make modifications to make it fit ?

Unfortunately, due to no response and my machine being shipped, I just order a new 80mm spindle. Did you have a solution? Or are you in the same boat?

@bthabel It’s not like Sienci to fail to respond to a support request. Did you follow up with them? I appreciate that, since you’ve ordered another spindle, it may be a bit late to ask.

@bthabel @gwilki Note that the ATC spindle is square so I assume they have a mounting method for it.

I only posted this, I did not follow up as I figured there probably wasn’t much call for it. I saw one of their videos where they were testing a much larger square spindle. But I have not seen where any users were actually using one.

Thank you all for your replies.

@bthabel I may have misunderstood your comment. When you said that there was no response, I tool that to me that Sienci did not respond. As @Chucky_ott said, the ATC spindle that Sienci sells is a square unit, so they must have a mount for it.

@bthabel I believe the ATC spindle may still be pre-order. So I don’t know if they have any parts in stock for it yet. I also don’t know if they have published the CAD drawings in Onshape yet. It took a while for the Altmill Mk2 to be published. The ATC and related parts may take a bit longer as well.
