@mollysaynavong On the product page, Ram is shown as 8GM and memory is shown as 128Gb.
Since memory and Ram as generally spoken of as being one and the same, what are these two numbers? Also, what is GM?
Wild guess that 8 Gb RAM is operating memory and the 128 Gb is file storage (what previously was ‘hard drive’ storage)
@Jens I’m betting you are correct, but that is not what the sienci site says.
It was a combination of typo and lack of clarity that our own team pointed out internally too it’s updated now to clarify that it’s 8GB RAM, 128GB internal storage
@chrismakesstuff Tks, Chris. I assume that the internal storage is an SSD??
Yes it’s an SSD
I’m sure it’ll be more than enough, however will it be upgradable at both ends, Meaning RAM and SSD?
@Parkey I’m sure that Sienci will have a more definitive reply, but this is an excerpt from the specs:
" Can I upgrade my computer?
We don’t recommend opening it up for safety reasons. Users can use removable storage devices like an external hard drive or USB stick to provide more memory."
I believe that this confuses memory with storage.
I have more than a little computer hardware experience and am definitely interested in whether the RAM is upgradeable. Ideally to at least 16GB total as I would ideally like this pc to run VCarve and be remotely connected to so I don’t need to install VCarve on multiple machines.
I have already pre-ordered so I’m in regardless but would like to understand the capabilities nonetheless.
@whitewolf I have no idea. Since you have already ordered it, I assume this is not a game changer. I don’t see any specs on the motherboard, which would be helpful in determining if the ram is upgradeable.
I had already planned on, and am currently using, a RasPad with a Pi 4 in it which is mostly working for me. My back-up plan when the gControl was announced was a NUC or fanless mini with a 20" monitor so this will work regardless - and if not, I will incorporate it into some other project.
Will the gControl be added to the Order Status Page?
@whitewolf I’m sorry but I have no idea. I suggest that you contact Sienci for answers to your questions. I’m sure that they will be responsive.
Sorry, I was under the impression that they monitored and/or moderated the Sienci Community User Group and Forum.
@whitewolf They do monitor the forum from time to time, most specifically the gSender and Super Long Board categories. I moderate the forum, but I am not an employee of Sienci and cannot speak for them in any context.
For specific product information or technical support, the best approach is to complete the online form on the Sienci website. They respond quite quickly.
Hi @whitewolf
As of right now, we do not have gControl on the Order Status Page. We may have it on there in the near future.
The RAM for the gControl Panel Computer is not upgradeable.
Thank you for clarifying. That’s a bit depressing, or rather limiting, but thank you nonetheless.
