Happy creating!

I posted this one before and hope that is not a problem.

Ever since I ordered the longmill I wondered if I could make 3d art out of a photograph combining laser and carving. It took me some 1.5 years to get from shredded wood to this one.

I ended up adding painting to the list aswell, to get as close to the origional photograph as I could.

I posted this one a while ago too. It was one of my first projects and 3d art as well. I didn’t have any idea how to make super detailed cutouts for what I wanted.

I ended up buying and using a 1/16” diameter tapered ballnose to slowly cut through 1/8” baltic birch.

I made layers in vectric according to the back mid and foreground of the image I was using and made tool paths for each one. Ran them all separately to get my pieces cut out - a total of 8 layers for a 1 inch thick piece.

Then I glued them up in pairs then pairs 3 times to minimize the stress of aligning them all at once.

Then finished with a spray lacquer to seal it up and mailed out to my friends out west as an anniversary gift. As it was their proposal photo that I re-created.

I pulled inspiration from my dogs playing in the backyard and turned a few stills into a fun collage. After carving the frame on my LongMill, I used Nixplay to loop the final photos as a slideshow…it worked great to show the whole process and result. It’s nice seeing the progression run on the frame right in my shop.
