Here is my latest project. 8 layers of 1/8" BB Ply cut on my Longmill with laser. Red, White and Blue are acrylic paint. Brown area around eye accomplished with a torch. All layers have three coats of rattle can poly before glueing layers together.
Nice work. I really need to get a laser. I’m not sure if you could get that kind of detail with a mill. I’ll be trying though…as soon as I get my spindle.
If your material thickness aint to large, you could kinda get close using a 1mm endmill but it wont be as crisp as a laser can give. You will have to account for the bit diameter on inner cuts.
You might be able to cheat somewhat using an inwarded offset vcarve toolpath to have the bit clean up the corners before the cutout, but it will have a different look al together.
I think you can do this using mills only, if you realyrealy want to, but a good powerfull laser would make this a brease in comparison, and still win out.
@paullarson It’s good to see you back, Paul. You don’t mess around with your return.
This is with a 20w diode, yes?
Thanks, Grant. I need to be inspired.
Yes, it’s a 20 watt Laser Tree K20.
