@BMcNanley I am likely not the best source of advice on these question, Bob. First, I don’t have the Sienci laser beam. I have a very similar diode laser. I don’t have a spindle on my LM, and I have my laser connected the PWM port on the SLB, just as I did on the original long board. So, I don’t need to change any firmware settings going from router to laser. Finally, I never followed the advice to set $30 to 255. I hasten to add that I am not saying that is/was bad advice. I understand where the number came from. (That may well not be true since I understood that the 255 had something to do with how many increments an 8-bit controller running grbl could read. Since I believe that Sienci continues to recomment 255 on a 32-bit controller running Hal, I am likely mistaken in my understanding.) That aside, maybe my math skills aren’t what I believe them to be, but I always found that setting $30 to 1000 made my life much easier when determing my power settings. (1000 is Lightburn’s recommendation, for that that’s worth.) A 50% power setting equates to S500 in my gcode, 30%=300, etc. Using 255, a 50% power setting renders either S127 or 128. I rest my case.
All this meandering aside, if I can be of any help, I’m willing to try. With luck, though, someone with a Laserbeam who is following this thread will be of my help than I can be.
