Lurking here awhile, time to introduce myself!

I just wanted to introduce myself as I have been lurking here for a few weeks learning all I can learn about the 4x4 Altmill which I’m in the process of putting together as I type this. I guess I’m not a total noob to CNC as I have owned and used the Shaper Origin for the last 5 years! Shapers introduction of Bench Pilot got me thinking if it was maybe time to up my game a notch and check out the world of Gantry style CNC. And now here I am 3 months later joining you guys! I’m sure there will be numerous questions flowing from me and I hope to one day have the experience under my belt to answer the next new to CNC’er questions!

Welcome to the forum Dean. I am new here myself. Lots of knowledgeable, helpful folks here. I looked at the Origin Shaper at our local dealer. I think it’s a very innovative and well thought out solution for a portable CNC type router. I eventually decided that I wanted a Gantry type CNC and looking around I found Sienci, which to my surprise were located in Canada, making their high value products an easy decision. I dithered over the Longmill/ Altmill decision for a while but went Altmill in the end. My Altmill landed here about a month earlier than I expected so I am slow getting it going. The space required for a 4 x 4 can be hard to carve out of your workshop but I think I have a workable solution. Good luck with your assembly! Mine went quite well and was a useful experience to learn about Altmill construction and design.

Cheers

Brian
