Maintenance - Lubrication

The longmill only has ball bearing slides on the z-axis. Never clean those other than flushing them with some good ol’ wd40. The v-wheels ride on top (and underneeth) the axis with the upper one crushing wooddust into what I remember chewing gum to become after spending a year under your desk at school.

On the mill it’s easily removed by rubbing/scraping a small piece of scrap wood held under a wee angle over the individual sides of the V. The underside does not accumulate gummy wood pulp.

The upper wheels can ride some serious filth though. I clean them because I am in the mood (noooot often) not because the machine’s working is compromised by it.

I believe the longmill to not need much cleaning at all. It’s like a lawn mower. Looks, smells and sounds like shit, works perfectly as long as the cutters are sharp.

Milldred, I call it Milldred, is like the sister I never had.

its not like im putting all my body weight on it. I’ve been doing it going onto 3 years and have not had a problem. to each their own though. I clean the lead screws with WD-40 and a rag then use 3in1 oil on those. same with the Z axis. Thanks for our concern though. It works for me and was just sharing. Spiral Out
