Monster Butterfly

These slotted models are fun and easy to do. The key is to size the slots to match the thickness of your material.

This one is 17" tall and 21" tail, end of body to antennae. The material is 1/4" MDF. Painted up, these can look quite good.

I did this using a 1/8" downcut to cut 1/8 from the top, and a 1/8" upcut to finish it off. No sanding that way. Some day, I’ll break down and buy compression bits to do it all in one shot.

Critiques most welcome.

Thanks for all the thumbs up guys. I think these would be interesting if they were painted, then the openings filled with coloured epoxy. Not for me to do, but interesting nonetheless.
