My first cnc run. Inlay for a customers guitar!

My customer wanted to get the name of their pony “POLO” on the guitar somehow, I suggested the 12th fret marker. knew it was ok because its only 4 letters so I could beef them up.

I used a 1mm bit, reduced speed to 20% SINCE MOP is very hard and away I went.Of course I’ll need to cut the pockets with my Dremel but that’s ok.

I felt pretty confident. Gotta start somewhere. All be doing trussed covers today.
Ill get to a fingerboard and body soon enough.

I also began the faceplate for this custom build. A piece of ebony. I used a 1mm bit, travel was 100% with no issues.

Have to respect the “Send it” attitude. When I saw the first images, in my head I thought you were doing this on a guitar you were doing a fret job on not a new build. Still, first run. :+1:

Hey Kerry, thank you.

It’s much easier than my mind pictured before I got the cnc setup. You know, overthinking. I’m starting with the small stuff. I’ll be doing an mdf fingerboard test run and an mdf test on a carve top. That’ll be fun.

Cheers,
William

Wow! That came out really nice! I don’t how you did the pockets with a Dremel tool but it’s impressive to me. I would have had to make a jig and use the mill for the pockets. Do you have to make a jig of some sort for the Dremel? Or maybe you don’t get the shakes when you NEED to be steady like I do?

Thanks Michael>
I used 3/4" MDF templates and my Porter cable for the body. The faceplate and inlays were cnc’d.
Is that what you mean?

William

I think Michael is stretched so thin, he became spaghettified.

Happens to the best of us.

I’ve been there too. I hope he’ll. be ok.

By the way, I did play around with a dremel..ish machine strapped to my mill because I had time and scrap and wanted to see if .. neah no ifs, I was bored.

It did work, kinda sortha. I had a fun time with it.

I thought that meant that the pockets for the POLO letters would be done with a Dremel. I don’t know anything about guitars. What pockets were you talking about? The ones for electronics and stuff?

While I got you, what does MOP stand for?

Aaaah ok. I did them with the Dremel yes, It wasn’t so hard, the font was thick with no tight areas.
MOP means mother of pearl.
