I spent the last weekend building my table and mounting my(new to me) MK2. I got it squared from corner to corner and got it dead on .Then went to the squaring program in gsender ver 1.4.9 and confirmed I was only out by 0.2mm. while doing this process i noticed a red box pop up in the bottom left which said Error2 bad number format. I just closed it and everything seems to work as it should. Then I moved on to to movement tuning ,this is where my problems started. I marked my start position as per instructions , when i moved on to step 2 the X motor made a loud noise and wouldn’t move . I hit the stop button , and tried again same issue. as well as everthing was lock up and i could hear what sounded like a humming from one of the motors. I shut down restarted and tried manually jogging the cnc. I now get another red box that says alarm homing ? and another below it that says click to run homing but neither do any thing . Y ,Z axis works fine ,X wont move. Did i screw something up while trying to run the movement tuning and not finishing the process? any suggestions to fix these issues so i can get back to getting this thing up and running?
Hey Frank,
welcome to the dungeon. Sorry to hear you encountered issues right away, but rest asured, most of us did and we prevailed and felt good about it afterwards -ableit all the frustration and wanting to throw everything out of the window at some point. Do not do that yet!
There are some unknowns in your post that need some calrification.
- Did you obtain your machine second hand?
- is it a pure MK2 or is it a MK2.5
- Do you have longboard or Super long board?
- Do you have sensors?
- Do you have a 30x30 or 30x48 MK2?
- Did you look at the Issues and Fixes page shown below?
CNC Issues & Fixes đź©ą - LongMill MK2 CNC
Hope you can get your machine up and running with the help of that page, and if not - we’ll have your back when you provide aditional info.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post

3. Longboard
4. No sensor
5. 30x30
6. Yes I’ve read thru and didn’t find a solution
@fonthillhd Since you don’t have limit switches/sensors, you may want to ensure that all of the firmware settings related to them are correct. Open this link
Essentially, you are going to set yours to the opposite of these, since these are instructions to turn settings on. Be sure to click on “apply new settings” before you exit the screen.
Thanks will check after work today
I got out to garage this afternoon and got back to trying to figure out what happened . In short , after trying to run the movement tuning on the x axis . it moved about a 1mm and made terrible sound . after that everytime i tried jogging the x axis it would jerk make load noise and give a different error but mostly 15. and the motors on the x and the z axis would hum till i restarted the system. decided to go into firmware section and
flash the Grbl and restore the defaults, and that seemed to fix my issues . tomorrow i hope to surface the wasteboard.
