I’m building a TV table for the bedroom this weekend and am just using mostly dimensioned weathered lumber for the rustic look.
I designed it in Sketchup but I bought the lumber a while ago and didn’t have quite enough to do exactly what I wanted so I tweaked the design a bit but also worked hard to get the lumber yield ideal, given the various lengths I need to cut.
It’s a well known math problem and I figured there must be an easy way to do it oneline. A bit of googling turned up this great tool: https://www.kurraglenindustries.com.au/linear-cutting-list-calculator.htm
Here is a screenshot of what it worked out for me. I fed it my available lengths on hand and set my kerf and then input all my required cuts. It worked very well.
