So I just recently made a pen holder for my Altmill. However I’d like to know is there anyway I can program from artcam without starting the spindle. I’m aware I can manually edit the gcode. However I’d like to know how I can get the pen and spindle working together.
Not having an Altmill, not upgraded beyond gsender 1.2, and not knowing anything on artcam, so I am wildly throwing some ideas around here. Can you create a diamond drag bit in your tool database?
If not, maybe you can create a vbit with an rpm of zero and use that in a profile toolpath.
Maybe you can set gsender to laser etching so it wont control the spindle. As far as I know there is no direct handshake between the slb and a laser, so it should not error because there’s no laser connected?
I know there are members on here that use the Altmill with a router, because the spindle doesn’t ship yet due to certification issues, so it must be possible to run an Altmill without a spindle connected.
Maybe dissabeling spindle/laser will let you run your machine without spindle engagement, so you can run a profile with your pen holder?
I tried deactivating it on Gsender and editing the code but there’s something sending a signal to startup router. I found that letting the file begin and simply pressing the spindle stop button on the vfd works fine.
Here’s a image of it working for a stencil I needed for a project.
