While I have done inlays before using the “old” method, this is the first time that I have used the built-in Vcarve vcarve inlay toolpath. It sure makes things simple.
This is a piece of unknown species that I was given years ago. The characters are torrified ash. The finish is water-based varnish.
I laser cut the minute and hour hands from a scrap piece of maple burl and stained them dark before finish-coating them with the same water-based varnish.
My wife likes it, so that’s all that matters. ![]()

Nice, Grant! This will give me incentive to try the process in the software.
@Wills Tks, Bill. The vcarve inlay toolpath in VCarvePro really makes this simple. I just used the default gaps and they worked out very well. Please post your project.
