Proof of concept “minimalist keyboard tray”

Proof of concept for a keyboard tray, I thought I wouldn’t need this as I do most my creation in the house in my office , I went ahead and installed aspire on the Gcontrol. Then I realized I needed a mouse and keyboard , slapped this together tonight , the rough draft is MDF a few changes and all make the final out of some sort of actual wood! Thinking about centering it up more under the screen and adding a support gusset underneath on the second layer clamp , also extending the back side of the clamp. I like how it rotates away over the machine and out of the way. What you guys think?

Very nicely done! Creating the keyboard tray that holds bits too! What’s not to like?

It’s too nice, too smooth, too functional, too awesome, too bloody perfect! That’s what’s wrong with it- And this is only the poc!

Wait till he posts the fully fledged tigerwood one with ivory inlays!

No I’m not jalous! I just hate myself.

I use a piece of scrap plywood and get splinters in my fingers when I MOUSE TOO LOAD!!1.

Ouch

That looks really good. I’m gonna steal that idea. And the last picture with your touch plate, well, I’ll add a tray for the touch plate too.

Yea touch plate and collet wrenches will be getting a spot

I really like the Spindle Wrench pockets and the Touch Plate parking spot. Having a place for current bits is high on my list. I will also add a shallow pocket to hold my Mouse Pad, and perhaps another to keep the compact Keyboard on place. A parking spot for my Logitech Gamepad might be handy.

I’ll receive my AltMill in late May (if things go as scheduled). This may have to be one of my first projects. Would you be willing to share your design file?

Probably will share once I have it perfected.

Version 2.0 and most likely final version, I will probably just shellac sand repeat this thing and call it done. No need to waste good lumber on a minimalist utility device… I think it will do the job seems to be sturdy enough for what I need, I like that it can swing out of the way. Took me a week to get the keyboard and mouse from Amazon, finally came in tonight so I milled out version 2.

Minimalist, my eye! This is very well thought out, LCPW. I posted the one I’d made last week, but it certainly didn’t feature the handy dandy storage “bins” of yours.

Good going!

freakin sweet! i want the files

This looks fantastic. I am using this for inspiration. I find I stand in front of my machine so i might reverse the pivot point. Love the collet holders - good place for those!
