Raising gantry to accommodate 12"+ material

Has anyone successfully fabricated brackets and retrofitted the gantry attachments to raise up the gantry?? Seems like a metal fabrication job that could be done with the AltMil using aluminum material? Wondering if anyone has done this and has a template ready to mill??

Welcome to the forum.

Accommodating thicker material than the Altmill allows has been discussed before. But I think most solutions have been to set the material lower in between the cross rails instead of raising the gantry. For example, mounting a board vertically so that dovetails could be carved. Using the “slicing” feature of your CAM software (Vectric vCarve has this feature) is another option if you can work with thinner stock and stack them after carving.
