I do not have my Altmill yet - hopefully March time frame. In the meantime I am trying to learn and figure everything out ahead of time. I think I have read every document on the Sienci website. However, I have not been able to figure out one thing…
My existing machine is a home built 15x34 machine with a 2.2Kw water cooled spindle. The chiller used for the spindle water supply has an alarm output (NO or NC) that I have tied into my limit switches so that, should I loose coolant, the machine STOPS.
Can I use one of the AUX limit switch inputs for this? If so, how/what settings are needed to use it?
Kelly, thanks for the reply. Yes, I have read the SLB documentation front to back and have not found an answer yet. There has to be a way. If I read the documentation correctly, the AUX limit switch inputs are tied to the main XYZ limit switch inputs in the center of the board. The regular XYZ limit switch input wood have to be Normally Open in order to use the AUX inputs as additional limit/alarms. When I get the machine I will be experimenting for sure.
@Lenp that’s an interesting idea, I’ve not come across something like that before. Speaking off the top of my head, it seems like something that should be feasible and yeah I’d probably set it up as a ‘limit switch’ input. Like you say it’d have to match the other limits switches as NO/NC that you’d be using as actual limit switches, and the only other thing you’d need to do is enable ‘Hard Limits’ and that would immediately stop the CNC whenever you’re doing something if the ‘limit switch’ gets triggered
