Spindle trips GFCI outlets

I just found out that the Spindle will not work with GFCI recepticles, unfortunatly, all of my outside and shop recepticles are GFCI. This is required by code. Has anyone found a fix for this issue short of running a non-GFCI circut to my shop?

Thanks

Tim

Hi Tim,

I had the same issue with my Altmill spindle. The issue is the VFD drive that varies the frequency of power to the motor to control the speed. I ran a dedicated 20 amp, non GFCI circuit and problem was solved. When I ran it, I assumed that I would have to replace that outlet with a GFCI outlet when we sell the house or get an inspection by the city. If you don’t want the hassle, I’d check out the Autospin T1 router. I’m sure Sienci can answer if it will run on a GFCI circuit.

Best of luck, perhaps other users have found work arounds. I’ll be watching the thread!

You might be able to replace the outlets for normal ones, and run the shop on a rccb 30ma circuit breaker instead.

I have had no issues with a Siemens 20A CAFCI/GFCI breaker protecting the outlet that the 1.5kW Sienci spindle and VFD is connected to.

Thanks for your suggestion, it helped!

Tim,

been reading into this a bit as I know it’s a common issue. The new Eaton BRN220GFCS breakers are apparently now being made VFD friendly. They are digital and can disregard high frequency leakage. Says it will work with VFD on the home depot website .

I do not believe gfci receptacles though have the ability to disregard high frequency leakage yet so it would need to be a breaker at the pannel. My current set up is the digital breaker at the pannel and a normal receptacle in garage.

Machine came in today so I’m hoping it’s gonna work. If not I’m getting rid of the gfci.

Can confirm, spindle is doing its break in just fine, no tripping.

Last test would be under load and it’s prolly good

Make sure you have nothing else on the same circuit. A dedicated circuit is best. I have GFCI outlets with no issue, but they are 20amps.
