Has anyone attempted any alternate dust shoe designs? I quite like the MK2 magnetic dust shoe, but I have finally damaged the end of it beyond repair (usually by running it into clamps and such when I try to get to close to them).
I’m about to 3D print a replacement body, but I was wondering if anyone else had experimented with a tighter design where it surrounds the collet. One of the major issues I have had is the red button running into the dust shoe (the way my router sits in the mount, it interferes at the front right) especially when carving anything that requires a deep Z.
Since my current project(s) are mostly sheet goods related, I was thinking about making a dust shoe head (perhaps even interchangeable) that is aimed at being very compact, to avoid running into clamps near the edges of work, as well as targetted at cutting sheet goods with a 1/8 bit.
Thoughts?
