Toolsetter and e-stop magmounts

This is why open source rocks. I used the e-stop CAD and designed a custom 3d-printed base for the e-stop. Magnetic mount. Used a forstner bit to drill out and press 2 magnets into the table at the front and back.

This way if they get bumped somehow, no worries. I can also move the toolsetter to the front if I want, or move them out of the way if I need max width of a workpiece.

Heh heh … I also designed a custom 3D printed base for the estop. It sits on top of the gSender monitor pole that is in the same corner. Haven’t had an occasion to use it but it’s a lot quicker to get to compared to the original location.
What do you use for the tool setter? Is that part of a tool changer or is it stand-alone? How handy is it for allowing easier/quicker tool changes (if you are using it without a tool changer)?

Yeah those magnets are ultra useful. I use them in projects too, to be able to mount stands on art that needs the be able to be wall mounted and stand alone. It’s amazing how much force these things can create for such small magnets.

Inspiring idea to habe them on the machine aswell. Makes sence to do this.

It measures the tool offset between changes. It’s all manual. It’s incredibly handy for multi tool jobs, a must have I would say.

Which toolsetter do you have? I gather that there is some programming involved for macro’s. I found some ancient stuff but would it be possible to post your macro’s?

No macros required. It is supported natively by gSender and SLB. gSender will run it’s own toolchange routines when it detects a toolchange command.

You do need to set the location of your tool setter.

I got mine from AliExpress.

Since it’s on magnets I can also grab it to use it as a Z height probe as well for the top of my material.

@Jens I was recently looking at toolsetters and I remembered seeing one that looks like it might be the one @greg5 has.

Here the one I saw on Amazon.

Yup, searching AliExpress for keywords like ’ CNC Tool Sensor’ will bring up a ton of those. Amazon works as well, it was more expensive in Canada but each market is different.

I looked at AliExpress and yes, there are a ton of them. There are also identical looking units that vary wildly in cost so how do you choose?
As a side note, my last order from AliExpress got lost in the mail. It took around 3 months (!!!) for them to refund me the cost of the items (below $3 IIRC). I am extremely reluctant now to order anything through them. I used to order stuff quite regularly before.

Oh yeah, I see tons on AliExpress, didn’t look there before. I also see ones that look the same and you can buy with or without the nozzle. And that leads me to my question. What is the nozzle for? I can see what’s missing but haven’t a clue what it does or what it’s for.

Normally open or normally closed?

Normally closed is typically what is recommended.

Fun fact, the bolt pattern in the Estop enclosure lines up with the holes on the front of the legs. I had to notch the Estop body a little to clear a bolt head but now is accessible in a hurry and not tucked around the corner and under the Y axis screw.
