I’ve been using the red button and large wrench that came with my Makita router for many months, giving up on the two wrench method. What I learned was the red button isn’t for cranking down the collet nut to hold the bit. The bit came loose and dug down deep.

Ah! The school of hard knocks. Happens to the best of us. You might also want to remove the collett nut and collett after cutting and each bit change. Check for sawdust and clean out if necessary. That will also cause loose bits.
