Since scienci no longer sells themā¦have you found a good balanced ER 16 19MM nut out there?
I find myself swapping the collets more often than I anticipated, and there is a noticable difference in the resistance when adding/removing them, so I would like to get 3 new nuts, one for each collet, so I dont have to worry about them wearing out too fast anymoreā¦but I can only find unbalanced china nuts OR ER 16 20mmā¦
@cniemann88 If youāre in the States, check out PreciseBits. User @TDA is with them and posts here from time to time. They do sell collet nuts, but unfortunately, shipping to Canada makes it prohibitive.
As for Sienci selling some, I asked them about it. They said theyād consider it based on user demand. So you need to ask them to increase the demand
As for Scienciā¦I emailed them, and they sent me to this forum and facebook, saying they arent selling them anymore. Honestly, I am pretty unhappy with that response, as I bought this spindle last august from themā¦stopping supporting that hardware within a few months seems like a pretty unkind thing to do, as they didnt even mention that they wont support it any longer and I should get a different spindle insteadā¦The new ER20 spindle with the 1/2 collet is very tempting, but not if I cant trade the one I haveā¦Who is a Scienci person that I should tag with this ācomplaintā ?
@cniemann88 Dunno who you can tag, other than the Sienci staff who moderate and participate in this user forum. Look at the moderator list and youāll see that the co-founders are both there
Note that some moderators are not employed by Sienci and wonāt be able to help.
As for the ER20 collet nut, they donāt sell spare ones of those either. Hence the need to make sure they know thereās a demand. Theyāre pretty responsive to customer requests.
Usual preface, Iām with PreciseBits. So while I try to only post general information take everything I say with the understanding that I have a bias.
Hey cniemann88. The real issue is trying to find the āhybridā nuts. ER16A in my (and apparently most of the industryās) opinion shouldnāt have a 19mm thread. Simplest solution is that if you donāt need the hex head for something like a rapid change just switch out to the ER16M (mini nut) and you can find tons of manufacturers. I went through it over here if you want to blow half an hour.
The other major point in that is that any ER16 with a mini thread has a lower max torque. So watch out for that regardless of what direction you go.
Let me know if thereās something I can help with.
Just so itās clear if someone comes here thinking they are the same. Those are mini nuts and require a different wrench.
As I pointed out in this thread and the other I posted, that is what I would switch to if I had an ER16 19mm threaded spindle. That puts you back on the standard for that thread and collet size giving you a ton of options for balanced nuts.
I donāt understand this nuttiness ⦠just stock a handful of nuts and be done with it. It isnāt going to change your bottom line by a noticeable amount unless you get carried away and buy a thousand of each. (you = Sienci)
