Where do you get balanced ER 16 19mm nuts?

Since scienci no longer sells them…have you found a good balanced ER 16 19MM nut out there?

I find myself swapping the collets more often than I anticipated, and there is a noticable difference in the resistance when adding/removing them, so I would like to get 3 new nuts, one for each collet, so I dont have to worry about them wearing out too fast anymore…but I can only find unbalanced china nuts OR ER 16 20mm…

@cniemann88 If you’re in the States, check out PreciseBits. User @TDA is with them and posts here from time to time. They do sell collet nuts, but unfortunately, shipping to Canada makes it prohibitive.

As for Sienci selling some, I asked them about it. They said they’d consider it based on user demand. So you need to ask them to increase the demand

@Chucky_ott Thanks! Ill check them out.

As for Scienci…I emailed them, and they sent me to this forum and facebook, saying they arent selling them anymore. Honestly, I am pretty unhappy with that response, as I bought this spindle last august from them…stopping supporting that hardware within a few months seems like a pretty unkind thing to do, as they didnt even mention that they wont support it any longer and I should get a different spindle instead…The new ER20 spindle with the 1/2 collet is very tempting, but not if I cant trade the one I have…Who is a Scienci person that I should tag with this ā€˜complaint’ ?

@cniemann88 Dunno who you can tag, other than the Sienci staff who moderate and participate in this user forum. Look at the moderator list and you’ll see that the co-founders are both there

Note that some moderators are not employed by Sienci and won’t be able to help.

As for the ER20 collet nut, they don’t sell spare ones of those either. Hence the need to make sure they know there’s a demand. They’re pretty responsive to customer requests.

@moderators I see this tag, but I dont see a list…

Usual preface, I’m with PreciseBits. So while I try to only post general information take everything I say with the understanding that I have a bias.

Hey cniemann88. The real issue is trying to find the ā€œhybridā€ nuts. ER16A in my (and apparently most of the industry’s) opinion shouldn’t have a 19mm thread. Simplest solution is that if you don’t need the hex head for something like a rapid change just switch out to the ER16M (mini nut) and you can find tons of manufacturers. I went through it over here if you want to blow half an hour.

The other major point in that is that any ER16 with a mini thread has a lower max torque. So watch out for that regardless of what direction you go.

Let me know if there’s something I can help with.

I think maybe @Jason is best to let know about this?

I did find one here: ER Collet Nuts and Wrenches @TDA Thanks for responding here and via customer email.

I ordered 3 to try them out…as your page pointed out, they are balanced, and on paper the specs are what I think I was looking for

No problem.

Just so it’s clear if someone comes here thinking they are the same. Those are mini nuts and require a different wrench.

As I pointed out in this thread and the other I posted, that is what I would switch to if I had an ER16 19mm threaded spindle. That puts you back on the standard for that thread and collet size giving you a ton of options for balanced nuts.

Hey @cniemann88,

I see you and have passed along your feedback to the team. Thanks for sharing!

Cheers,
Stephen

@StephenCampbell It would be really nice if Sienci sold the ER20 balanced collet nuts. They’re very hard to find in Canada for a reasonable price.

I don’t understand this nuttiness … just stock a handful of nuts and be done with it. It isn’t going to change your bottom line by a noticeable amount unless you get carried away and buy a thousand of each. (you = Sienci)

Perfect timing for these posts this morning, I need nuts for my ER20 collets. Dear Sienci do you have a solution for this important request?

@Xceedrick I suggest that you ask Sienci. This is a User forum and Sienci may well not see your question/request here.
