Kelowna, BC (Canada). Received my LongMill a couple weeks ago, and itâs going to be a few more weeks before I can set it up - need to get two projects out of my shop before I start anything else! Looking forward to getting startedâŠ

I am in in AA County. Just found this group. I mean just! So I have not had a chance to explore this sight or research the product.
I have a carvewright and am mystified by error and maintanance issues. I am thinking more traditional CNC might be better, but the cost of machines seems so high. My email is atenneson.claxpo@yahoo.com
Welcome atenneson. I too had a CompuCarve. Sears version of CarveWright. I bought mine around 2005 and it worked good for a couple of years. Then the problems started and I put it away for 10 years. Now it wonât work and cost to repair or upgrade is ridiculously high. Cost more to repair and upgrade than to purchase the LongMillI new. Also didnât get much support from CarveWright either. I found the Sienci LongMill and it sounded good and the price is almost half of comparable sized units. I love the LongMill 30x30. Sienci support and user group support is super. Check out the Faccbook pages too. See what the LongMill can do.
Been looking at some similar products and also ran across inventables. Why did you chose this machine? Were other comprable machine around when you bought. If you have some time for a visit to see machine etc. My email is on original message
Most of us that bought the LongMill did research other comparable units. The closest ones are the X-Carve and the Shapeoko right off the top of my head. But if you price them out you are looking at almost double the price. Others out there are even more expensive and may be better but youâre talking $3K and up (mostly up). Main reasons I chose LongMill was lead screw driven vs belt driven and sturdiness was another factor. I was looking for a desktop unit with a fair price and LongMill had what I wanted and could afford. Iâm guessing AA County is in Maryland.
It is in MD.
I have looked at both that you mentioned. You raise durability and belt driven and mention âlead scew drivenâ ??
I think also that most of these units let you select the router.
Also, on there website or maybe forum mention was made of problems etc and they addressed pakaging, re-engineering failures, very open
I know X-Carve and Shapeoko are driven by rubber belts with gear teeth. Prone to stretching or possibly breaking teeth over time. LongMill is lead screw driven (long spiral rod like a bolt or screw). Lead screw is a little under 1/3 inch in diameter. Wonât break or bend under normal use. Durability applies to strength of long X and Y axis rails. Driving a router is stressful in both X and Y directions and can deflect (or bend) weaker metal rails. Both aluminum and steel depending on shape. Since the LongMill uses V shaped aluminum rails it seems to be stronger than the 2 other machines mentioned. Sienci has both a facebook user group forum and a community forum on their web site. Both sites offer information and solutions to all of the things you mention. If you have a problem someone will answer you usually in a matter of minutes. The guys at Sienci are constantly looking for and implementing improvements. I am very pleased with what I bought. Unfortunately I didnât have $10k-$20K to get one of the premier machines but what I have will do the same thing. Just not as fast or as big.
