Is it necessary to have the slb and spindle on separate circuits?
Welcome to the forum @Strst ! Good group of people with sound advice. I would say no. With that said, I don’t own an AltMill yet, but will in the future. I run my machine and router (LongMill MK2) on the same circuit. Now my old Mac, I had issues with running on the same circuit. It would pop the ground fault on an outlet. I switched circuits for the laptop and no problems since.
Again, welcome!
Jake
Thanks for the quick feedback Jake . I’ve just joined the forum and am looking forward to the advantages of group support and collaboration.
@Strst One thing that I’m sure you know to consider is the amp draw of your spindle + the SLB and the rating of the breaker that runs the circuit.
Thanks, you’re right. I also have concern over electrical interference on the slb.
I have a Altmill and I don’t have them on separate circuits. I’ve been running it for a month and a half with no problems. My circuit is 20 amp
Perfect! That’s what I was hoping. I’d like to be able to use the rest of my wood shop while the mill is running.
Thanks, Stan…
@Strst Just to address any confusion. Mine that is. I took your question to ask if the SLB and the spindle had to be on different circuits - one for the each. Your last statement leads me to believe that I misunderstood. You are talking about whether one or both of them need to be on a dedicated circuit - one on which you are not running other shop equipment - table saws, jointers, planers, etc.
I agree. Separate circuit from lights, table saw, dust collector. Anything that could push you to the point of breaker tripping. Mine is a dedicated circuit with nothing else connected but my CNC. Routinely, I am using my table saw, or my surface planer while the CNC is operational. Although I do stand and watch my LongMill do its magic in awe sometimes!
Sorry for any confusion. I naturally have concerns about any and all setups!
Would very much like to avoid surprises.
Making space and getting everything ready for the big day. Appreciate all the help from everyone.
I have my Alt Mill and SLB running through a 20amp surge protector and into a dedicated 20amp breaker. Ive got 4or 5 run hours with no issues.
Thanks. The surge protector is a great idea. I’ll check on my power bar to see the rating.
