I’ve ordered an 4x2 AltMill, but I don’t have it yet. It will normally live up against a wall, but in my tiny shop, I will likely need to move it for various reasons (perhaps including working on a piece larger than 4x2 by tiling). So, I want to put wheels on it. I’m envisioning the rear wheels being on the floor all the time, but the front wheels working with a lift lever so there are feet on the ground during normal operation. (There are kits out there for doing this with work benches) Two questions:
Has anyone here done this?
What is the height of the top of the side rails with the standard legs?
TIA!
Hi James,
Exciting times ahead. Good to be thinking ahead of what you need for your shop. I too did this prior of getting my longmill and figured that I too needed a way to move the mill for longer projects. I have a condtruction that keeps the table connected to the wall. It slides out like a drawer and via a turnable can rotate 90 deg into the shop.
I rarely do this for sliding it from the wall mostly gives the extra feed through I need (3ft). I choose this construct mostly because I figured that I could reduce the amount of casters needed but I ended up installing a set extra for stability anyway.
Your idea seems sound and gives a futureproof setup that will move along with your needs. Always a sound idea to keep all options open like that.
There is a hight drawing for the altmill.
