After homing cycle, zero settings are gone

Hi,

When I have set my project position and hight I will make that my zero-position (X,Y ans Z). After a homing cycle, the machine is automatically set to zero, this means that my project zero’s are gone. Is there another way around that? For example, when I have to change a bit during a project, I like to do that on the HOME position but then my project home is gone.

Thanks!

Jaap

As you can see in the picture, there are two sets of numbers for a CNC machine. The small numbers are ‘machine coordinates’ and the bigger numbers are ‘work coordinates’. When you home the machine it sets the machine coordinates to zero at the home position. The work coordinates are stored as ‘offsets’ from the machine coordinates internally and don’t change after homing.

As long as you home the machine before you set the work zero’s, homing again should not cause a problem with your work zero’s. And to get to the front left corner for a bit change you don’t need to home the machine again. You can use the corner buttons to go to any corner without homing again.

I should also add that after a bit change you only need to set Z zero again. You can do a Z only probe for that, no homing and the X and Y can stay the same. I always use separate tool paths for each tool so if you are changing bits during a tool path there might be other things that you have to be aware of, I don’t know as I don’t have any experience with that.
