AltMill 2x4 table build

I’m just getting started on my AltMill 2x4 build a ran into this cross beam assembly issue. I cannot find a solution in the on line instructions. How do you access the holes for the center cross bar If the Y rail through holes are blocked?

@rtglover Without an Altmill, I’m grasping here, but what are they blocked by?

Would turning the lead screw result in unblocking?

if you pull on the block, the lead screw will turn and you should be able to move it out of the way.

The cross bar in the background needs to be screwed into the Y rail in the foreground. The through holes for the screws are blocked by the gantry mounting block on the ball screws.

Does turning the ball screws interfer with a future step?

I have a 4*4 Altmill which should be very similar to the 2*4. The instructions clearly indicate that the cross beams are installed very early in the build. I would think that you might have to remove those ball screw assemblies.

Of course if it’s the actual ball nut assembly and not the screw, then you can just turn the screw a bit to reposition the nut assembly.

Thanks. I’ll try that if I cannot turn the ball screw. I did get one screw in after removing the plastic shipping retainer.

Turning the ball screw nut on the motor side solved the center cross rail installation problem. Now I hope I didn’t misalign something.

Thanks

I don’t think that it is possible to mess up anything by manually turning a ball screw. It will simply be re-aligned the next time the mill is homed.

Yes, Sienci labs confirmed it’s ok to turn the ball screws.

Thanks
