AltMill and drawers

I’m a newbie to CNCs and have an AltMill. Just this week, I made my first cut, e.g., I surfaced the spoil board. I’ve mainly sourced my bits from IDC Woodcraft. I now realize I need some drawers under my AltMill and am looking for suggestions.

I don’t have an Altmill (Happy longmill user here.) I have a small rolable table with a small drawer cabinet near my machine where I keep my milling essentials. I however didn’t came here to talk my setup or drawers or anything you asked for.

I’m here to congratulate you on finaly recieving and having completed your long awaited gift machine. I am sincerely happy for you and cannot wait for you to start posting your awesome projects.

Good times ahead Sir, good times indeed. Enjoy!

I didn’t go the drawer route. I 3D printed a bit holder that I place on a cart or shelf nearby. I usually take the bits out that I will be using and have them just to the side of my spoil board.

No idea if this will hold enough but it’s worked for me for the last few months at least.

I can share the file if you like - Can likely use it to carve out with some minor adjustments.

Hello @Jgt1942 ! Like @Spamming_Eddie, I too have a LongMill. With that said, this could easily be adjusted to fit the AltMill and give you the drawers you seek. Excuse the mess, I used the top of my CNC for gathering junk while I was making it. The unit is a slide in with friction drawer slides. The design was something I copied from my dad’s design from my childhood. Some paste wax on the frames and bottom of the drawers and there is cheap, effective storage. The upper left is a keyboard tray slide out. I still have decent space available behind the drawers for something else, just not sure what. Maybe wood storage? Possible. Keep in mind it took me over a year to design the drawers. I wanted to make sure of the workflow before making something.

Let your creative mind run free. You got plenty of space for a drawer system under your AltMill. Enjoy!

@Jake I was going to recommend your setup if you hadn’t already. I remembered liking it but I didn’t remember the grain on all the drawers. I like how it all lines up! Pretty cool!

Thanks @michael. I seen the grain in the plywood and just had to give it a try. Need to make a horizontal audio rack for my living room here hopefully soon. Seen the matching of grain somewhere else and wanted to see how well it worked. When I do the audio cabinet, I’m thinking of using walnut and having the grain go horizontal.

Look on YouTube at Bucky’s Customs. I got my idea from his videos. They are pretty cool…
