Altmill levelling feet

The other thing I’m noticing in that screen grab you posted is rolling leveling feet. They look exactly the same as the ones I have gotten from Amazon in the past for shop cabinets. I wonder if this is an approved method for moving the machine around the shop.

Probably safer to build a frame than to have the legs shaking around independently.

What size stems are on those leveling casters? M12? Did you have to widen the holes in the legs or did the slip in? Thanks

I used the M12 Stems with no modifications.

Thanks! Google said M10, but I couldn’t find that. Ordered the M12s. Thanks again!

Just an update. Mine had m10 sized holes. Easy fix, but m12 didnt fit like it did with yours.

same. had to enlarge them to m12 to install casters but was easy enough to do during install

Instead of using the Footmaster type of casters I went with these removable casters I found on Amazon. This way I can level everything using the OEM levelers, move the machine to another location, then move it back to the same (marked) position on the floor (so it’s level again), remove the caster assembly so there’s no tripping hazard, then start milling. Rinse and repeat.

What an ingenious idea. Thank you!

i have these on my workbench. only issue is that they slam workbench to the ground once you lift them up

If you pop the lever up quickly, yes, it can. I lift by pressing the lever down with my foot. When lowering, I slowly raise the lever up by hand. This might not be possible with a very heavy workbench, but it’s very doable with my 200+ lb. 2x4 Altmill.

@Altmillal1114 How did you increase the size of the holes though? I’d like to put my Altmill on the same type of casters when I assemble it.

Used a step drill bit

@CuttingTheCrapAlex Yup, a step drill bit is a must to increase a hole size. Won’t bind like a regular drill bit and it will keep the centre.

I had no step drill available and used a regular drill bit. There was some grabbing involved but the amount of metal removed is tiny so with a little bit of caution there were no issues.

If you have plans to mount the removable casters (linked in my previous post) on an Altmill, you’ll need to drill 4 new holes to use them.. The existing holes on the bottom of each leg don’t line-up, plus they’re not low enough to raise the OEM leveler off the floor. The caster comes with really long flat-head screws. Unfortunately, they look awkward protruding on the back side of the leg. I picked up some shorter SS screws to use. Have to make sure the screws are flush with the bracket or you won’t be able to slide the caster assembly into the slot.
