Going through the assembly steps and noting any ambiguities or questions..
Under the table setup section it states “Do not unwrap the plastic on the left and right Y-axis rails until table assembly is finished.”
In my case the shrink-wrap was around the rails and the cross beams together so there was no way to get the cross beams off without also removing the plastic from the rails.
When attaching the cross beams the ball screw nut is positioned directly over the holes for the center cross beam. Would be helpful to have some note on what to do in this situation. Going to see if I can manually move it out of the way?
Bear in mind I have a LongMill not an AltMill but you should be able to turn the screw shaft by hand to move the ball screw out of the way. I’d just make sure both sides were even when installing the X gantry so It’s fairly straight/square when you get to that part. I’m assuming your talking about the Y axis screws ATM.
Okay. Thanks. The ball screw nut was able to be manually pushed to the side just took a bit more force then I tried before.
I do have 6 extra tall beam cross beam screws after installing the 13 on each side as mentioned in the instructions. I don’t see them mentioned anymore in the instructions so assume these really are just extra?
More than likely extra. There is a lot of extra hardware included with the Altmil but yeah, triple checking the assembly instructions wouldn’t be a bad idea.
In the section for end plates in the 2. Table Setup - AltMill CNC it would be really nice if every graphic for the “pre-July 2025” had printed on it/below it “pre-July 2025” to make it more obvious.
When scrolling through the instructions I must have scrolled too fast and followed the pre-July 2025 so now have to remove one of the plates to redo it since I have post July 2025 machine.
