I have the Sienci Labs Altmill 4X4 with 1.5KW spindle and I am planning on installing the RapidChange ATC “Solo” model with 24 volt 3 wire optical tool length sensor (TLS). I also have a separate 24 volt DC power supply to power the TLS.
When referring to the online Super longboard technical manual it shows the location to wire in a 5 volt version along with suggestion on how to connect the 24 volt version. The 5 volt version is likely wired the same as the 24 volt version which is red and black for power and the third wire is the signal wire.
This is where it gets a little confusing for me. I’m old school when it comes to comes to defining terminals for power supply power in or out, In the manual there is a heading “Switch & aux power” along with an accessory wired in,
If I look at the wiring diagram it shows how a separate power supply can be connected to the longboard for powering other accessories such as TLS’s. it seems as if there is no terminal for the power supply negative lead and that the negative feed would have to be connected to the negative of any accessory such as in the negative lead of the TLS that i intend to install. (the positive of the TLS lead would connect to the negative of the super longboard).
It would have been nice to have + and - terminals for 24 volt IN and + and - for power OUT.
I doubt I could just use the 24V from the power supply to power the TLS since there is no common ground to the longboard signal input - correct ?
Please review my findings on how to connect the 24V power supply and let me know if this is the proper way as I dont want to add any smoke to my longboard
I will preface this with saying I have ordered the Solo as well so was looking into this but have not received it yet.. My understanding is you do not need external 24V power supply. There is already a 24V DC output on PWR1 and PWR2 connectors. The RapidChange site then shows using the common ground off of the FLOOD connector. The IR sensor and tool setter wires then connect to the TLS connector. The 5V on the TLS connector is not connected.
@DavidB Be aware of the amperage draw limitation on pwr1 and 2. It is 250mA. Anything drawing more than that needs to be connected to swt1 or 2 with an external power supply.
DavidB and gwilki: I see that now, I was fixated on the wiring diagram with the external power supply, my bad. keep in mind that the Solo ATC with the TLS has only three conductors which are connected to the TLS, there is no terminal block, it seems the terminal block referencing the common ground etc. must only come with the different magazines. please correct me if I’m wrong
I just now connected the TLS to the 24V terminals (low amps) terminals and there is no power at either outputs. I thought these outputs were to be live at all times
I now have the 24 volt output working by using the console and entering M64P2 as per the instructions.

And just for reassurance I did verify with them on their discord channel that no external power supply is required for the Solo + optical tool setter with the AltMill and SLB-EXT.
now all I have to do is set my X,Y coordinates along with the Z by going to RapidChange to set up the profile then figure out how to make the macros.
Thanks for everyones input.
DavidB - thanks for your help, I’m not good with computers, yet alone macro’s.
