Hello all. My ATC setup shipped and looking for install tips and tricks on altmill mk2? Those that got their atc, what did you discover during install that would help make it go smoother?
I found it to be a pretty straightforward installation, but would have both the installation videos and step by step guides open while you’re doing it. There are a couple of instances where the guide had either more current or in-depth details than the videos.
Make sure that your air compressor is set so that the auto start is above 90 psi. I have a California Air that has a 30 psi differential between the max psi and the auto start. Since the max psi is 120, the auto on should be at 90. Mine was dropping down to about 86 psi and I kept getting low pressure errors. Fortunately there’s an adjustment screw and I was able to kick it up so that the errors stopped.
They had not released gSender 1.6.2 when I installed mine and there was a bug that reset the number of tool positions to 6 after it had been set to 12 if you tried to change from the default ATC Options. That bug was fixed in 1.6.2.
Once it’s set up, you have the option to use any of three settings for the behavior of the tool rack tool changes. The default setting is to probe the tool length on the TLS on every tool change. They did this to minimize the possibility of errors for newer ATC users. The second setting skips the TLS probe but assumes that each of the tools has been pre-measured with the info stored in the tool table. This is the setting I use as it saves about 10 seconds per tool change.
Mine is working flawlessly and I’m very happy with it.

Some great advice from Mick here. The only thing I’d add is to take your time. It’s not a hard assembly but it does take a while. Take breaks and don’t rush. I did my assembly in a few hours stretched over two evenings and I’m glad I did.

Thank you for the info. I have the Kobalt version of the air compressor. 27gallon ultra quite one. I think it kicks in at 100 PSI and goes up to 150PSi but i’ll double check
Make sure that when you turn on the ATC in software that passthru is enabled too. Mine was not and led me to a little confusion. It does not tell you this in the video or the docs. But, with that said, they might have added that to the docs by now. Other than that, it was pretty easy to install.
