Anybody ever experiment will ball screw protection? It somewhat bothered me that the ball screws get coated in wood dust/chips and found out there is protection for ball screws in general in the form of “bellows”. Maybe issue is how much they cost?
@DavidB I sometimes think about dust on the ball screws and linear rails, more so on the X gantry than the two Y’s. But then I simply dust them off and move on…which is a surprise because I’m an overthinker.
Bellows on the screws could work but it would depend on how much they compress and stretch. Longevity may also be a concern.
I don’t know how tight the tolerance between the rails/ball screw and the corresponding blocks. I’m assuming they’re tight enough to just push along any fine dust that gets on them.
One could argue that if your chip loads are good, you will get chips and not dust, and it won’t be a problem ![]()
