CNC not listed in "Connect to machine"

Hi,

new user here, I wished I had both the money and the room for a 4x2 Altmill, maybe in the future, but for now I had to a smaller, cheaper CNC.

I’m trying to connect my brand new Genmitsu Reno 4040 (upgraded to a 6040) to my old 2011 MacBook Air running macOS High Sierra 10.13.6, using gSender 1.4.11 and it lists six unrecognized devices, five of which are for my Bose QC45 bluetooth headphones and the 6th one being for incoming Bluetooth connections.

But in System Information / Hardware / USB, I see the CNC listed as ā€œUSB Serialā€ with the following information:

Product ID: 0x7523
Vendor ID: 0x1a86
Version: 2.64
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Location ID: 0xfd120000 / 3
Current Available (mA): 500
Extra Operating Current (mA): 0

I know it’s the CNC because that port disappears when I power it down. So I know my laptop does see the CNC, I’m wondering why I don’t see the port in question in gSender even though the Reno is listed as running grbl on their website.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

edit: it seems to be an FTDI vs CH340 problem, I’ll look into that.

After installing the CH340 driver found on SparkFun’s website, I’m now able to use gSender with the Reno 6040. There’s still a few things I need to research, such as setting a wrong zero on all axes seems to prevent the end stops from doing their job and the CNC tries to go past its physical limitations and I also want to disable the ramp-up/ramp-down because it seems to slow everything down compared to my old TurboCNC setup.
