I ordered a new Laser Tree LT-80W-AA Pro. I am confused on how to go about installing the laser to my SLB from Sienci Labs. Is there a video or has anyone else ever installed the same laser to their SLB? I have ordered an extra plug 3-pin 3.81mm pitch Pluggable to plug in the SLB and I was thinking of using telephone wire to connect from the laser driver to the SLB. Do you think the telephone wire is a good idea? I’m open to suggestions.
The Altmill page features a link to rhe manual on adding a third larty laser at the slb. It features the longmill slb, but both slbs are the same in regard to adding a laser.
I have not looked deep into compatibility of the slb with the laser tree controller board, but I thought I saw the lt controller wants 12 or 24v pwm controll? That might you needing a stepup adapter between the slb and the controller. Again, I only swept the manual of the laser so I could be wrong here. Will take a look after posting and might be back soon.
OK, thank you for the info. The only other question that I would have is what kind of cable should I use to connect my driver to the SLB. That is why I asked if telephone wire could be used. I have a MK1 30 x 48 so I need about 8’ of cable.
Going with the setup of my own laser. The pwm signal does not carry much power, only signal. On my setup, the laser controller is right at the longboard and is connected with two lose wires that to me are pretty heavy duty. I thinnnnk you can get away with telephone wire allthough it seems you need to run it all the way up the machine.. that’s what.. 3 meters in length? This might be a wee problematic, static wise.
I would go with at least some more copper and a shielding to prevent (future) problems that have no clear cause. Static can be a pain to pinpoint.
I am still unclear on the pwm voltage compatibility and have asked Chris and Kevin to chime in.
They will have a definitive answer in that regard.
@Allan I have the lasertree 20 v2. Looking at the adaptor board, it seems to be the same one that you have. What may be very different is our configuration. I have a LM Mk2 30 x 30. The lasertree adaptor board and my SLB sit right next to each other on my table. So the cable connecting them is the one that came with the laser. It is less than 12" long. The long cable connects the adaptor board to the laser module. That one is very long as it runs in the drag chain. An electrical engineer on this forum recommended that I run minimum 14 gauge wire. Smaller will result in current loss. So, I am running 3 conductor14 gauge, stranded silicone wire. It’s super flexible and works very well. I can’t see telephone wire working very well at all.
Sorry for delay, but was verifying with engineers since lasers aren’t really my knowledge base - they agree with Grant and Eddie in that the board will work, but you should look at alternative wiring options if possible.
There are a number of threads on this forum about other users setting up their Lasertree 20 - you could peruse them for some insight related to your model.
Just to let everyone know I was finally able to connect my new Laser Tree to my SLB. Now it is just a question of placing all of my wires in the chain track.
I would have another question. I would like to make a couple of new wiring
MK2 Cable hanger organizers. I tried to find it on Onshape but I cannot find it. Is there anyone that can send me the STL file or the Onshape link. Thank you!
