I just placed an order for the SLB-EXT kit with the closed-loop stepper motors. I also ordered some 8mm to 6.35mm couplers on amazon for the motors to lead screws on my machine. I am looking for anyone that has done this upgrade to share any information that they can, and let me know if I need anything else to complete the upgrade. I would also like to know about any issues that were found/overcome as this will be my first time doing anything like this. On the flipside, if anyone knows of a tutorial out there, I would welcome it with open arms!
Hey Jeff,
On the productpage, scrolling down you may encounter extra information containing links to the information you are looking for.
Theres one on the slb and one on the stepperset.
I just installed the SLB-EXT closed loop kit on my Onefinity Journeyman. Honestly, aside from the cables not fitting in the drag chains it was pretty straightforward. (I used velcro cable ties to strap the 2nd motor cable bundle to the outside of the drag chain) For me, I didnβt even have to change the couplers as the shafts of the new closed-loop motors are the same diameter. Motors bolted in as direct replacements for the original motors.
Iβm still dialing in the settings, particularly acceleration. But, I can say that the kit can handle ridiculous settings due to using some bad math and accidentally setting my axis steps WAY too high resulting in very aggressive motion (but never lost any steps or stalled)
Itβs early, but I think Iβm very happy with the upgrade - much better than the 36V grblHal setup I had in place - smoother, faster.
