Custom spindle for Europe

Hello,

I would like to purchase the AltMill model. I’m in France, and the spindle is powered by 110V. After some research, I found this model (AMB 1400 FME-P DI), which seems fine and runs on 220V. Is it possible to use it? I haven’t been able to find any information on compatibility.
For the SLB-Ext controller, I don’t seem to have a choice; I have to buy a 110V/220V converter, but if there’s an alternative, I’ll take it.
Are there any other restrictions on the electrical system?

Thank you for your help.

Hey Kopacabana,

I too recide in a place with Adult power and have not seen this spindle option you linked to, or forgotten I have.
I really like it. For what I glanced it needs a PWM control, and though the SLB has this, it’s 5V and this unit you linked to needs 10V, so what you will need is a 5 to 10V PWM convertor to connect this unit. It however is not a real spindle, but more or less something like the Autospin soon to be released by Sienci.

There are spindle sets available suitable for 220V, but not by sienci as of yet. I think the safest bet you can go with is a set with a FVD that has a RS485 connection. No convertors needed for that.

Be advised though, settings between the SLB and the FVD can be tricky.

Disclaimer: I do not own an Altmill, SLB or even a spindle set. My post best be considered musings of an old man shouting at clouds. It might be wise to consider any post I make as spam. I have made that easy by including “spamming” in my handle.

I do however own a machine that runs on Childrens power too. Though it’s a Longmill, a simple 500W 240to120V tranformer works well for me. You might want a slightly more powerfull unit for the specs of the Altmill says it runs on 500Watt max power without a spindle, so it might be cutting it close using a 500W max convertor. But nothing fancyer than a simple transformer is needed, and It shouldn’t cost ya more than €150,-
